Minnesota Peaceable Assembly Campaign:
Adventure to Obama's White House
By Steve Clemens
February 3, 2010
We sat in a holding pen in our 4th jail since our arrest at the White House the day before. As we awaited to go to court, I wondered aloud to Joe Palen, a Pax Christi Twin Cities Area board member and one of my fellow arrestees, whether we would need time to decompress from the psychic trauma we incurred by seeing the dehumanization of the fellow humans being processed and prodded alongside us in these warrens of Washington, DC, places that are usually excluded from the routine tourist sites of the nation's capital. Did what we witnessed contribute to a kind of PTSD? Can the cumulative effect traumatize you even if the oppressive actions occur to others in your presence...

Why Is It Taking So Long to Get the Aid to the Haitian People?
by April Knutson

The U.S. “aid” to Haiti is looking more and more like a military occupation with U.S. helicopters landing troops on the grounds of the Haitian National Palace.

All over the world ordinary people and governments have responded to the unprecedented disaster in Haiti, sending water, food, medical supplies, medical personnel. And a week after the earth- quake, much of that aid and many aid workers sit idle at the Port-au-Prince airport. Doctors With- out Borders report that five of their planes were not allowed to land because U.S. military aircraft were commandeering the only runway...

Time is Running Out
WAMM T3, January 20, 2010
Time is indeed running out. We are soon to become officially a nation that sanctions torture. At the time the United States ratified the Convention Against Torture (1994), we also passed a federal statute criminalizing torture (18 U.S.C. Secs. 2340 and 2340A). That statute has a statute of limitations period of eight years, meaning if it is not enforced within eight years of the alleged act of torture, it cannot be used against that particular act.

Clearly, we have committed torture. The International Committee of the Red Cross says so; FBI interrogators say so; general counsel to our armed services says so; and Bush-appointed Military Commission judges say so. The United States began “legalizing,” authorizing, ordering, and committing torture some time in 2002. The eight-year statute of limitations will begin to expire on those acts some time in 2010.

Time is of the essence if we are not to become officially a nation that tortures. Our anti-torture/torture accountability committee, Tackling Torture at the Top, needs your help.

GAZA Freedom March - Minnesota
December 30, 2009

Over 100 people paraded through the skyways of downtown Minneapolis for an hour at noon on Wednesday.

They marched in solidarity with 1400 humanitarian activists from 42 countries who are in Cairo, waiting for Egypt's permission to pass thru the Rafah Gate, which is Egypt's access into the Gaza strip. Among the group are seven activist from Minnesota.

Egypt has offered to allow 100 of the activists into the strip. But the marchers in Cairo have so far rejected that offer. Rallies on behalf of the marchers are beginning to attract Egyptian citizens in the streets of Cairo.

You can reach the U.S. State Department at 202-647-4000. Show your support for the
GAZA Freedom March.

The Minnesota march was organized by the Palestinian Rights Coalition, of which the WAMM Middle East Committee is a member.

Palestinians have lived under an illegal Israeli occupation since 1967, preventing them from establishing their own state on their homeland.

There are now millions of Palestinians who are refugees due to Israel's refusal to recognize their right under international law to return to their own homes since 1948.
