WAMM Welcomes New Staff Member

by Lisa Ann Pierce, WAMM

This month we welcome Christy Anderson Brekken as the new co-director of Women Against Military Madness. Christy has a bachelor's degree in justice and peace studies and psychology, with a minor in women's studies, from the University of St. Thomas (UST). It was there that she took Marv Davidov's class in active nonviolence. She became acquainted with WAMM through member Barb Pratt.

At UST, she co-coordinated the Student Coalition for Social Justice. She went on to an internship with Friends for a Non-Violent World, and then a year with Americorps, volunteering full time at Southside Family School.

Most recently, she spent four months in Pohang, South Korea, with her partner Ted, who was invited to study abroad. Upon return to the Twin Cities, she began working as the office coordinator at the Institute for Local Self-Reliance.

Christy is originally from Devils Lake, North Dakota, where her family still lives. Stop by the office to meet Christy and welcome her to WAMM!
