About WAMM

Promoting Peacemaker Protagonists

by Marie Simpson, WAMM co-chair

From time to time WAMM members are asked how WAMM as an organization (members, steering committee, and staff) welcomes and assists new ideas and activists. How do new and renewed activists implement ideas of their own or find activities within the WAMM community in which they might participate?

For all of WAMM's herstory individual members have been "empowered" to proceed with their ideas under the WAMM umbrella, but many WAMM members may not be aware of how the organization can aid them in exercising that privilege.

WAMM members with ideas for actions (educational, contemplative, unique, or traditional) that are encompassed by the WAMM mission statement may receive publicity for their activity through flyers, the newsletter, and other informal communication channels. In some circumstances, seed money is available to assist WAMM activists in bringing their ideas to fruition. In addition, WAMM members are often willing, even anxious, to offer advice and assistance or to participate in new programs.

The current WAMM Steering Committee includes former staff members, young and "seasoned" organizers, WAMM founding mothers, as well as women with myriad other skills and interests. We encourage you to utilize any or all of these valuable "shesources."

Contact co-chairs Tammy McKenna (651-699-9494) or Marie Simpson (651-290-2584) for more information. One of WAMM's greatest strengths has always been our willingness as activists to offer each other assistance, inspiration, encouragement, and nurture.
