Days of WAMM: The WAMM 20th Anniversary
Song
by Phyllis Goldin, WAMM
Sung to the tune of "Those
Were The Days," by Mary Hopkin
Back in '82 there was a meeting
Though it hardly seems that far away
It was then that WAMM's heart began beating
A heart that beats so strongly still today.
CHORUS:
These are the days of WAMM,
We sing in praise of them,
Determined women, men (the gentle kind),
Who join to make earth whole,
With justice as a goal,
To dignify each soul with peace of mind.
Some folks took a trip to Greenham
Common
Missile use in Europe they decried.
Others bought up war toys sold at Target
Returned them later, after Santa's ride.
Two decades later WAMM keeps
up the pressure
On companies that cause the world disease
Greedy profiteers of war who plunder
Exposed poetically in "Grounds For Peace."
CHORUS
Early on a spot with Donahue
Later, one with Larry King Live
Always ready with a different view
WAMM helps the voice of reason to survive.
Children are not just shorter
soldiers
Schools should not sponsor JROTC.
WAMM defends those left out of the mainstream
Victims of police brutality.
Children of Iraq, we know you're
dying
The West arms your leaders but starves you.
WAMM promises to always keep on trying
To bring to light the forces killing you.
CHORUS
Fifteen years ago there was a
peace camp
Right next to a major weapons plant.
Those who stayed there in an act of protest
Are those who really did give peace a chant.
War is not a fix for 9/11
Violence to Muslims is so cruel.
Wednesdays on the bridge at Lake and Marshall
WAMM gathers to proclaim the Golden Rule.
What the world needs now more
so than ever
These twenty years WAMM offered by its toil
A lamp whose light comes from the peaceful spirit
And burns without a drop of foreign oil.
CHORUS
