Co-Directors’ Corner
December 2002

New Co-Director

Welcome to our new co-director, Amanda Stewart! Amanda comes to us from Community Solutions Fund, a coalition of nonprofits in the Twin Cities that includes WAMM. We will miss our outgoing Co-Director Denise Murphy, who is resigning to spend more time with her family. Amanda joins our growing staff which includes Jen Randolph Reise (co-director), Heather Foster (office manager), and Lisa Ann Pierce (newsletter editor).

Working against war

The good news: On October 26, 2002, over 10,000 people marched from the cathedral to the capitol in St. Paul in one of the largest anti-war protests in Minnesota since Vietnam. We are building on that energy through protests and popular education. Also, WAMM has appeared recently in the Star Tribune; the Pioneer Press; TV Channels 4, 5, and 11; Minnesota Public Radio; and the newspapers have published numerous letters to the editor written by WAMM members.

The bad news: November’s elections mean that the Bush Administration’s rush toward war will gain momentum. The American people are the last obstacle to all-out war. Citizen movements have turned back oppression and injustice before. We have a lot of work to do, but we can make a difference!
