Mother Warriors Take on War

by Polly Mann, WAMM

Some organizations fighting for needed human services understand the connection between their work and the military budget. One such organization is the Minnesota Welfare Rights Committee, which, like WAMM, has an office in the Sabathani Community Center. A similar group in Wisconsin—Welfare Warriors—publishes an outstanding newspaper, Mother Warriors Voice, “a mothers’ and activists’ journal.”

This is how Welfare Warriors draws the connection between the military budget and their work: “Our new permanent ‘war on terrorism’ is a perfect example of the deadly desire of our wealthy rulers to profit from war while using it as an excuse to deny civil liberties and to impoverish people.”

To subscribe to Mother Warriors Voice, contact Welfare Warriors at 2711 W. Michigan, Milwaukee, WI 53208, or www.execpc.com/-wmvoice. The cost of subscription is $15 per year, free to mothers in poverty at distribution sites.
