Intercultural Action for Peace is a cooperative project
Our goal is to gather grassroots community participants in critical reflection about the interconnections of poverty, racism, militarism, and war. We will act together through activities such as theatre for social change, creating peace gardens, participating in workshops and celebrating the rich diversity of cultures in the Twin Cities community.
Please note registration is required for some workshops or programs.
Week 1
Monday, June 23
Making connections
building bridges through sharing our stories and musical traditions. Explore how dialogue and storytelling can be used to strengthen and build community, and intercultural relations. Facilitator Nothondo Zulu of the Black Storytellers Alliance. 6:30 8:30 p.m. Donation $3.00; registration required.
Week 2
Monday, June 30
Culture as a tool for resistance to oppression
working for peace through cultural affirmation and movement. What does it mean to live in a world of multiple cultures? This session includes dialogue and experiential activities including dance. So, wear very comfortable clothes and shoes! 6:30 8:30p.m. Donation $3.00; registration required.
Week 3
Monday, July 7
So how are the children? Drumming and Movement, Storytelling and Arts & Crafts for Peace. Children ages 5 12 years of age (must be accompanied by an adult). 6:00 8:00 p.m. Donation $3.00 per participant includes supplies; registration required.
Week 4
Monday, July 14
Food for thought
from the Last Poets to Hip Hop. Spoken word as a vehicle of social action. Oral tradition is one of the oldest in the world. Throughout history, on every continent, there have been storytellers and poets who have performed before an audience. Join us for this exciting evening celebration. The festivities begin at 6:00 p.m. with an international feast, followed by a celebration of spoken word. Arrive early as there are limited seats available! Donation of $5.00 PER PERSON includes the feast. NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Monday, July 21
Visual arts for social change. This is an experiential session that will be facilitated by artist Jane Evershed. Donation of $3.00 per person; 6:30 8:30 p.m. registration required.
Week 6
Monday, July 28
Violence and Peace
transformation through story. Explore theatre for social change in an interactive session facilitated by Rivers Edge Playback Theatre. Donation $3.00 per person; registration required.
Week 7
Saturday, August 2
Intercultural Action for Peace Festival. 10:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. at Seven Bridges World Market Join the fun!
