Do you take the time to reflect on all that you have done for WAMM or for peace, justice, and hope for humankind? This month, take some time to reflect by writing in prose or poetry your story about the work you do.
For some of us, it is difficult to just sit down and start writing. So, gather some items first before you start to write. Gather photos from the march or rally you attended. Put on some music that reflects a time that was particularly significant to you (for me, it might be Where Have All the Soldiers Gone?). Or pull out a favorite poem that expresses your ideals about peace.
Once you have gathered these items, find a place to relax with pen in hand. Looking at the photo, for instance, describe your feelings about what you see. Sometimes just stating the facts will help you get going-who is in the picture, when was it taken, what feelings do you remember?
Or maybe listen to that poignant song and describe what you remember about the world at that time. I remember losing a brothers friend to the Vietnam War. I still feel the sadness.
This exercise is meant to help you just experience a moment of memory. Writing about that moment may bring some clarity about it. You may note some happiness or sadness. It is in the act of remembering that we continue to move forward in this journey of peace and hope.
If you would like, send your story to Women Against Military Madness so we can share it with others: 310 East 38th Street, Suite 222, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55409. |
