Since 1980 deregulation and corporatization has dramatically accelerated. We live in an oligarchy led primarily by the financial industry which now represents 40% of corporate profits compared to 15% in the 1970s. Six Senators representing 2.3% of the population are determining healthcare policy. $100 million was spent in the last month by the health care industry lobbying and propagandizing. The top ten health insurance providers have experienced a 430% increase in profits from ten years ago. Government now covers 60% of our health care through various programs (3% administrative costs), while private insurers (30% administrative cost) cherry pick the healthier population for profit, and leave 50 million uninsured. And, the American press fails to report these salient facts.
