On September 24, the private homes of six local peace and justice activists were raided by the FBI and seven received Grand Jury summons, including Sarah Martin who is also a WAMM member and serves on the WAMM Board.
The Anti-War Committee’s office was also raided. The government is attempting to implicate them in a bogus federal “terrorism” investigation. The allegations are baseless. The suppression of civil liberties is aimed at nonviolent outspoken individuals and members of several groups dedicated to ending the U.S. funding of occupation and war everywhere, including Palestine and Colombia, and who were nonviolent organizers of 2008 anti-war marches at the RNC in St. Paul and other peaceful anti-war protests.
It is ESSENTIAL that we all stand together in solidarity with other legitimate peace groups and let the world know that, while people are welcome to disagree with our political opinions, authorities do not have the right to persecute us for our beliefs, nor trample on our First Amendment rights.
Call your senators and representatives and demand that they have greater over- sight of the FBI on First Amendment rights.
